SUN CITY ROSEVILLE HOLIDAY HOME TOUR

Merry Christmas to all my wonderful friends and blog buddies!
This post will be a little different...first of all...there are three posts and I have to admit that is because blogger gives me fits when it comes to adding 8 or more pictures.  I think I have tried all the tricks to stop that from happening but so far no luck reversing that problem...
so...("SHE," thought, (she being ME) I will fix Mr. Blogger, it HAS TO BE A MR., RIGHT?
but I digress...that is a whole new post!
Anyway, if you are truly my friends you will have to set aside some time (sorry about the busy season, etc.) and, well, get a cup of coffee. put your feet up and (continue reading) as some of those fancy blogs say...

This is where I am fortunate enough to live...A lovely
Retirement Community for Active Adults.  This is the Front Entrance and it is a shame it was so cloudy on that day.  In our area we average only about less than 50 days a year of
not sunny...Of course if it rains all winter that changes.
(Sorry for the yield sign, but I wanted to show you the pansies and daisy ground cover that grows all winter.)  Are we lucky or what!

We have waterfalls on either side of the main entrance and it is so pretty.

This is a picture of our main lodge not including the Fitness Center
where some of us try to "keep fit."

And this is how you get into it...

Our beautiful Christmas Tree...but I am sure you figured that out!  DUH!

There is also a lovely fireplace right to the right of the tree but "someone" seems to have "deleted" that picture...can't say who that was, but let's just say, "I am the only one who uses this computer...must have been one of the gremlins who love to mess me up."

My house didn't get much more than my Feather Tree up..thus no Christmas picture...
I am leaving for Minnesota
(Brrrrr) and Iowa tomorrow morning and will return early in January, So
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL
and now...grab your coffee and read on...there are two more posts that go with this one
so have fun my lovelies, leave me a comment if you can
and I will see you next year!

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CHRISTMAS TREES

AND everyone was prettier than the last... Enjoy!

This one was all done in soft colors...pinks, whites,  pale greens to match her room colors!

Here we see a cute tree done up in red checked ribbon, some Hand painted "Father Christmas's and a lovely hand painted plate.  This homeowner is an artist in many forms.

This "Frosted" tree had tons of Teddy Bears...looked like they were residing on a "Snow-y" Mountain!  Very cute!

This one took your breath away...it was huge...around 20 feet!

And yes, we even decorate our bathrooms in Sun City!

Here is a beautiful "Angel Tree."

This tree was located just inside the front doors and it must of had hundreds of ornaments.
A real feast for the eyes...you could stand there for hours and still see something new!
NOW,
check out the next post for
"THE REST OF THE STORY."

THANKSGIVING AND MORE!

Well, Hello again!  Thanks to all of you who asked if "I was still here" and I have to say, "yes" I am but it has been a rough past 3 months.  I won't go into detail but lets just say, "There was a lot of pain involved" but I am on the mend again!"  THANKFUL!
So I thought I would show you a few pictures of my Thanksgiving decor before I take it down tomorrow!  LOL
Welcome to my home...

Before you enter see the little Turkey near the center of the Potting Bench below?  Well, he was purchased at the PX (they called them that then) at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. way back in 1951, my first married Thanksgiving and the branches, etc are the originals.  Every year I plan to change them out for something more current, but somehow that just doesn't seem to be the thing to do

Front entry table and my first piece of REAL artwork done by an artist right here in Sun City.

Here is that Hutch again...do you love dishes the way I do???  I have several sets "just for show" on my hutch.  Love to change them out with the seasons.

A kind, sweet neighbor was going through her Fall decorations and decided she couldn't use these darling bears so SHE GAVE THEM TO ME!  Do I have great neighbors or what!

This is a checkered runner, over a burlap runner.  The "Cake Stand" was my Grandmothers and the glass candle holders are new, from Target.  The Pumpkin is from Walmart and the candles go on and off by themselves!  Love that!

My collection of Thanksgiving Byer's Choice Carolers.  I actually saw them being made at their Factory in PA.  I have several for other Holidays and always love to display them.

Here's a Craft Show find this year...it is so cute when lit.

And now, the reason I am so very THANKFUL this holiday season is my sweet, wonderful Great Grand Baby, Colin.  I saw him in October when I traveled to MN. when he was 4 months old.  What do you think?  Cute, eh?

BTW, how do you like the "New Look" for my Blog.  I really hated the old so
 PLUMROSE LANE.com
took on the challenge and did a great job.  If you ever need help with your BLOG DESIGN just contact Sharon and you will love working with her.  I did, and recommend her highly!

Enough for now, I hope you all had your Best Happy Thanksgiving and are looking forward to the wonderful Christmas Holiday!

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL!

OK, so you saw on my last post how my life was being changed by that simple little gadget I found that lets my plant go up and down for proper tending, watering, etc.  Well, can you believe that several weeks went by and those darling little petunias were as happy as they could be, getting water, sun and sweet words from me.  What else could they do but "grow" and start to fill that pot and make me a (surprised) happy camper!  Now let's face it...growing stuff isn't in my bag of tricks, but when these little sweethearts grew and grew I was in heaven!  Oh,, I thought, the possibilities were endless:  petunias in the summer, mums in the fall, cyclamen in the winter, sweet peas in the spring...Oh the neighbors will be envious and I will finally earn my worth for the outside of my house!  These little babies were so healthy...

and then one day...BOOM!  What did I see but little holes in the beautiful white flowers!
ACH!  Something was eating my gorgeous flowers!  How dare they!  Who gave them permission!  Who asked them to visit my porch!
What to do...what to do.
Well, I am no dummy so I went to the storage cabinet in the garage and spent about an hour reading directions on how to get rid of "little hungry critters!"
Finally,  I decided on one that promised to spoil their appetites for "beautiful healthy flowers" in a matter of hours.  Hey, this was an emergency...time was a-wasting...

oh my gosh, look at that!  That's the sorriest  hanging basket I have seen (since last year!  LOL)
But, seriously, those little SPIDER MITES have HUGE APPETITES and I can't imagine how they got up there.  So, as unhappy as I am to show you this MESS, bear with me...Lord knows I am dead-heading, watering, trimming and generally whispering sweet nothings to them and I think, just think, they will re-start to grow and not look so sad.
And then, to round out the story...it is now over 100 degrees here!
Maybe I should stick to the inside???  LOL

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

BUT NOW FOR THE BEAUTIFUL...

I want you to meet my
 NEW GREAT GRANDSON...
"COLIN ANDREW"
(Remember my granddaughter's wedding I showed you last summer, well, look at what happened!)
He is a sweetheart and doing very well.  He was born June 1st (but I didn't have any good enough pictures to post until now.)  He was small, 5 lbs.15 oz and only 19 inches but he is gaining now.
I will travel to MN. to see him in Sept... I can hardly wait.

I hope you enjoyed my "Good, Bad and Beautiful" post today.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

I want to let those who are interested you can get one of those little
Plant Risers
at
STARCREST OF CALIFORNIA
www.starcrest.com
(800) 551-2843
and
they are only $4.00 for 2
Now if they could just figure out how to keep the "critters" out of the plant they would really have something!

Thanks for visiting and come back again!

OH I HOPE YOU DIDN'T 'FALL OFF YOUR CHAIR...

Did you?  Are you hurt?  Are you seeing
DDOOUUBBLLEE
Shall we call 911?
After all
2 posts from me
in one week may
be
waaaay tooooo much!
LOL
Just compose yourself and read on
Once I got this idea I couldn't stop myself!

You see, this is my front porch; I know you've seen it before
but just bear with me.
I love flowers and really full hanging baskets
(See the cute Heart Grapevine holder)
but I digress.
Anyway, the petunias seem to be struggling from lack of water
and I don't "do ladders" any more so
watering was a problem.
However
read on...

You see, I couldn't reach it
and when I did I got as much water on me as in the pot,
so...

See that little black thing-y near the top?
That, my friends
is saving my life
and the PETUNIAS
I might add

It is called
"EASY REACH PLANT PULLEY"
"The Easy Way To Care For Your Hanging Plants!"
AND ARE THEY EVER RIGHT!
And would you believe they are 2 for $4.00

So, here my friends is the Petunia Pot, raised up to her chosen spot, just
                                                                 "chompin' at the bit"
to grow" lush and full" and make me a Happy Camper!
So guess what? When I had the Pot down to my level, surprise, I saw some little critters were
enjoying dinner on those sweet little petunias.
Well, you can't win 'em all...
Guess they need more than water
Guess I'll have to give the "critters" some, ahem, "Flavored Water!

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

If you want to know where I got this marvelous, non-technical
piece, just send me an E-mail.
By for now, and
do pick yourself up off the floor!!
I promise I probably can't post twice in a week again
if my life depended on it.
But do come back again just on the
outside chance
I get another inspiration!

FAVORITE NOOKS AND CRANNIES

Have you ever had a spot in your home that you couldn't get "just right?"  Well, as you know I have lived in my home for almost  15 years (the most before that was 7 years, when I absolutely REFUSED to move) and I am almost ashamed to admit that some of the following pictures will show areas that have been this way since 1977!  LOL  And people say: I am always changing things!  WRONG!
Enjoy!

Since I don't live "In a Beautiful FARMHOUSE with a wonderful porch going all around, this is my answer to that.  It's only about 6 x 10 but enough for my little (K-Mart- Martha Stewart) table and chairs.  (Oops! Sorry about the hose!)

The top of my fridge...it just looks so neat and clean.
(Now should I put all the soda bottles back that have no other place to live in my tiny house!)  LOL

I got this little stand from "Collections" catalog for $9.95, repainted it black and when I found 3 Toile plates at Marshalls added a few black candleholders and called it a day!

This crock (from PA.) was given to me from a client and the dog is the
RCA Victor dog.  Love it!

Had this corner cupboard made years ago; it's been stained, painted red, tan, and now black.  I lined it in red ticking and the bonnet is from an online store.
A favorite spot in my bedroom.

And on the other side of my bedroom:  My daughter's birth pictures, First day of school and  a teen-age picture as a gift when they threw us a surprise 25th anniversary party in 1976.

In my master bath...the framed picture is an anniversary card sent by a daughter and
I just love the feeling of it.

This is a big, long window over the vanity.  I have a theme of "Houses" going on in this bathroom thus the houses on the sill.  Oh yea, The light fixture used to be chrome but I sprayed it (satin finish) black and it is great.
I hope you have enjoyed my Favorite Nooks and Crannies...now let me see yours!
Please leave me a comment and come back soon.
(Home Tour #3 is almost ready!)

DISCOVERED IN 1602...

and I was there!  No, you sillies, not in 1602 (I know I am "elderly" but I am NOT THAT OLD!  LOL  Santa Catalina Island has quite a history.  Located about 20 miles off the coast of Southern California, you have to take a boat to get there.  Well ,maybe there is an airstrip but I don't know for sure. Anyway, we (Mr. S. O.) and I flew to Long Beach and jumped on this wonderful boat for the trip over.  Takes about an hour...we were moving right along...

here is the boat...

and here is the dock with a map of the island...

This is typical of the scenery...can I say: "VERY HILLY!"

Here's how you get around on this island...
on foot or possibly a golf cart
You can rent bikes but.
There are hardly any cars

isn't this Hotel a beauty!  Really PINK!

and of course on a walk we found this sign
so I HAD to get a picture of
Mr. S.O.!
Cute, eh?

This was the view out of our window right in town.  I don't want to say the houses were close together sideways...but front to back as well!  Cozy,
and you better get along with your neighbors!

This huge sea gull was begging for food all the time!  Even followed me all
around the beach.  I couldn't help thinking of the movie, "The Birds" or whatever it was called.
Catalina is beautiful and a fun place to go!
Now if there was only a "Honeymoon" in the future!
HA, HA, HA!

I already have my next post "in my head" and hope to get to it quickly.
Have to allow you sweeties time to leave me a comment on my "Travelogue"
so do your part and I promise to post MUCH, MUCH sooner.
And I even used the new "Interface!"  Whew, it's hard to hold your breath
all the way through.
Thank you to all my new followers, some of whom I have NOT been able to thank
properly, but I appreciate each and every follower and comment.
Please come back soon!
